Tension resurfaced along the India–Bangladesh border after a Border Security Force (BSF) jawan was shot in the Maheshpur area under Dharmanagar subdivision of North Tripura district on Tuesday.
The injured jawan has been identified as Bipin Kumar (35), a serving personnel of the 97th Battalion of the BSF. According to sources, he sustained two bullet injuries on the upper part of his left arm (shoulder area). However, the exact circumstances and cause behind the firing incident have not yet been officially clarified by the BSF authorities.
Following the incident, the injured jawan was immediately rescued and taken to Dharmanagar District Hospital. Hospital doctor Prasun Bhattacharjee stated that BSF personnel brought in an injured jawan with two bullet marks on his left shoulder. After providing initial medical treatment and assessing his condition, the doctors referred him to the GB Hospital, the state’s referral hospital, for advanced treatment.
As news of the incident spread, it triggered panic and concern in the border areas. The shooting has once again raised serious questions about border security and the prevailing situation along the India–Bangladesh border. BSF officials have reportedly initiated an inquiry to determine the cause of the incident.
It is noteworthy that the border areas of North Tripura have long been considered sensitive, with frequent reports of smuggling, infiltration, and other security-related incidents. In this context, the shooting of a BSF jawan while on duty has intensified concerns regarding the safety and security of the border region.
