Sikkim CM Prem Singh Tamang hands over scooty to college student to support her education

Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang on April 14 said that it was a heartfelt moment for him to personally hand over a scooty to Ms. Sristi Darjee, a bright and hardworking college student from Gyalshing district.

He shared that this small gesture was aimed at helping her continue her education without daily difficulties.

Sristi is the daughter of Shri Om Prakash Darjee, a hardworking tailor from Upper Baluthang in Gyalshing. She is currently studying in her first year of Nepali Honours at Sanchaman Limboo Government Degree College, located in Gyalshing. During a recent interaction, the Chief Minister came to know about the challenges she was facing in her daily life.

According to CM Tamang, Sristi explained how the long distance between her home and college had become a serious problem. Travelling daily was taking up too much time and energy, which was starting to affect her studies. She shared that despite these difficulties, she continued to focus on her education with determination.

Moved by her story, CM Tamang said he decided to ensure she received a scooty from the government. This, he said, would help ease her commute and allow her to attend classes more comfortably. “No child should ever have to struggle to access education due to lack of resources,” the Chief Minister said.

He further added, “We remain committed to empowering our youth and removing every obstacle in their path to learning. Every student deserves a chance to succeed, no matter where they come from or what challenges they face.”

The Chief Minister also shared his best wishes for Sristi’s future, expressing confidence that she will go on to achieve great things in life. “Wishing Sristi all the very best for her future,” he wrote in a public message, appreciating her willpower and spirit.

This small act of support has been widely appreciated in the state. Many people, including students, teachers, and parents, said it reflects the government’s care and understanding of the real issues faced by students in far-flung areas.

The story of Sristi Darjee has now become an example of how personal attention and timely help can make a big difference in a young person’s life. It has also encouraged others to speak up about their challenges, knowing that someone is listening.

In many areas like Gyalshing, Namchi, and Ravangla, students often travel long distances for education. Lack of transport is one of the main reasons some students drop out or miss classes.
