Jiribam celebrates International Women’s Day

International Women’s Day was celebrated today in a grand manner at DC Office Complex, Jiribam with Deputy Commissioner, Jiribam as Chief Guest.

The programme was also attended by Shanti Devi, Caretaker Councilor of Jiribam Municipal Council, SDO Jiribam Laishram Roshan, Zonal Education Officer, Jiribam Th. Amurashi Devi, EO, JMC M Surjit Singh, Sub-Deputy Collectors, CDPO ICDS, DCPO, DLOs, ASHA workers, Anganwadi workers among others. 
Addressing the gathering, Deputy Commissioner Shri Krishna Kumar stated that the International Women’s Day as well as the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao programme is organized with the objective of safeguarding the girl children and to ensure welfare and better future to them.  
Under the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao scheme, the main target audiences are gild children, adolescents, young married women, Anganwadi workers, ASHA workers, educational institutions, government organisations, NGOs and media, he added. 
The DC also highlighted the importance of media in organizing the campaign and added that through media more and more awareness can be generated among the public. 
Stating that awareness is a must to avail the benefits and rights enshrined in the Indian Constitution, he further added that these rights and benefits are equally provided to all persons irrespective of caste, sex, religion and  region and people will be able to avail those benefits only when they are aware about them. He also pointed out the role of every government official and stakeholder in delivering the benefits under different schemes, acts and policies.  
Shri Krishna Kumar also appreciated the district level women officers, officials, healthcare workers for their cooperation in organizing the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao campaign across the district. 
As part of Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao Scheme, various girls and women were feted with certificates, cash awards and gifts for their outstanding contributions in the field of social service, law and order, health care, banking, education etc. Besides, lactating mothers, Anganwadi workers, ASHA workers, media persons were also felicitated with cash prizes. During the programme, awards were distributed to winners of essay writing competition organized in connection with Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao programme and girl toppers of government schools.
