New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday reiterated the Centre's unwavering commitment to eradicating drug trafficking, announcing the conviction of 29 drug traffickers in 12 separate cases across India.
Sharing the news on X, Shah stated, "The Modi government is relentless in punishing those who lure our youth into addiction for monetary gain. Through a thorough, multi-layered investigation approach, 29 drug traffickers have been convicted by the court in 12 cases across the country."
Emphasizing the government's zero-tolerance policy, he added, "Our mission to create a drug-free Bharat will continue with uncompromising and meticulous investigations."
Both the Centre and state governments have ramped up efforts to curb drug trafficking, implementing decisive measures nationwide.
During a recent review meeting on Manipur, Shah highlighted the state's drug problem and reaffirmed his commitment to dismantling drug cartels to ensure a drug-free Manipur.
Additionally, Shah chaired a high-level meeting in Delhi, attended by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Minister Ashish Sood, where he directed an intensified crackdown on the narcotics trade in the national capital.
States have also bolstered their anti-drug initiatives. In Punjab, a large-scale statewide operation led to the arrest of 290 drug smugglers, with over 750 locations raided and 232 FIRs registered.
Similarly, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Sukhu has launched a six-month-long special mission to dismantle drug networks. Under his directive, the police have intensified their action against drug peddlers, with a Special Task Force established to spearhead the crackdown.
With these concerted efforts, both the Centre and states remain steadfast in their resolve to eliminate the drug menace from the country.
