Over 220 Crore Aadhaar authentications in February, 14% rise annually: Centre

Aadhaar authentication transactions in India reached 225 crore in February 2025, marking a 14% annual increase, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) announced on Friday. Additionally, e-KYC transactions surged to 43 crore during the same period.

The government credited the e-KYC service for enhancing security and efficiency in banking and non-banking financial services, contributing to improved ease of doing business across various industries.

By the end of February 2025, cumulative Aadhaar authentication transactions had exceeded 14,555 crore, while e-KYC transactions crossed 2,311 crore, the ministry said.

Face authentication using Aadhaar has also gained momentum, with 12.54 crore transactions recorded in February alone—the highest monthly figure since the feature was introduced in October 2021.

A total of 97 entities have adopted Aadhaar’s face authentication technology, with recent additions including Kotak Mahindra Prime Limited, PhonePe, Karur Vysya Bank, and J&K Bank.

Since its launch, Aadhaar face authentication transactions have surpassed 115 crore, with nearly 87 crore of these taking place in the current financial year. The AI/ML-based authentication solution, developed in-house by UIDAI, is now widely used across sectors such as finance, insurance, fintech, health, and telecommunications.

Various central and state government departments have also integrated this technology to streamline the delivery of benefits to eligible recipients.

Aadhaar’s growing adoption in banking, finance, and other industries underscores its pivotal role in India’s digital transformation, the ministry stated.

Meanwhile, Aadhaar authentication transactions in January 2025 crossed 284 crore, reflecting the increasing significance of digital identity verification. This represented a 32% increase compared to January 2024, when 214.8 crore transactions were recorded, according to MeitY.
