Stepping up its campaign against narcotics, Tripura Police on Thursday conducted a coordinated anti-drug operation across several parts of Agartala, detaining 23 persons suspected of involvement in drug peddling and consumption.
The special enforcement drive was jointly carried out by personnel from East Agartala Police Station, Maharaj Ganj Out Post and College Tilla Out Post under the supervision of senior police officials. Raids were conducted at multiple locations identified as vulnerable to drug-related activities.
Officer-in-Charge of East Agartala Police Station Krishnadhan Sarkar said the operation forms part of the police's ongoing strategy to crack down on the illegal drug trade and prevent the spread of narcotics in the state capital.
According to police, those detained during the operation include both suspected drug consumers and individuals allegedly involved in the distribution of narcotic substances. Legal action has been initiated against them in accordance with the law.
"The fight against drugs will continue with greater intensity. We are determined to identify and dismantle every network involved in drug trafficking and will not hesitate to take strict action against offenders," Sarkar said.
He added that similar surprise operations will be conducted regularly in different parts of Agartala and adjoining areas to keep a close watch on drug-related activities and ensure that those engaged in the illegal trade are brought to justice.
Police have also appealed to residents to assist the campaign by reporting any information related to drug peddling or narcotics trafficking, stating that public cooperation is crucial in building a safer and drug-free society.
