A tragic incident in Kuchainala village has left the local community in shock after 15-year-old Roni Das, a Class 10 student at Kamalpur XII School, allegedly took his own life following an accusation of theft.
According to reports, the incident occurred last Monday morning.
Roni had gone to a nearby shop with Rs 20 given by his father, Jewel Das. The shop owner accused him of taking money from the shop’s cash box, took him to his house, and reportedly assaulted and insulted him before letting him go.
After returning home, Roni could not be found by his family, who later discovered that he had consumed pesticide. He was rushed to Kamalpur Hospital, then referred to Dhalai District Hospital and subsequently to Agartala, but passed away that night despite medical efforts.
“My son, after waking up in the morning, went to a nearby shop. The shop owner took him home and assaulted him, accusing him of stealing money. My son could never do such a thing. After returning home, he consumed pesticide,” his father said.
A suicide note was also found, in which Roni denied stealing the money. On Wednesday, his father and villagers submitted a written complaint at Kamalpur Police Station, seeking justice for the premature death.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, which has left the community grappling with the loss of a young life over a mere Rs 20.
