With the Village Committee elections under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) scheduled for September 28, South Tripura Police has stepped up security preparations across the district to ensure peaceful and smooth polling.

Around 1,200 security personnel are expected to be deployed across South Tripura as part of a comprehensive security arrangement involving the Central Armed Police Forces, Tripura State Rifles and district police.

The preparedness was reviewed during a crime conference chaired by Mourya Krishna C, IPS, Superintendent of Police, South Tripura, along with Additional SP Suman Majumder, at the SP Office Conference Hall in Belonia on Wednesday. The meeting focused on the prevailing law-and-order situation, crime trends and the security requirements for the upcoming elections.

Police authorities have classified polling stations into hyper-critical, sensitive and normal categories, with security deployment to be arranged accordingly. Strong rooms at the block level will also remain under armed security and round-the-clock surveillance.

In South Tripura, polling will be held in 70 Village Committees covering 306 constituencies and 538 seats across 177 polling stations. At the state level, elections will cover 587 Village Committees, 2,634 constituencies and 4,597 seats, with a total electorate of 9,61,977 voters and 1,550 polling stations.

As part of the pre-election security strategy, police will undertake area domination exercises, mobile patrolling and intensified vehicle checks at nakas, particularly along inter-district and border routes. Preventive measures will also be taken against individuals identified as potential threats to public peace.

Police will maintain strict enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct while stepping up surveillance to prevent the movement of illegal arms, narcotics, liquor and unaccounted cash during the election period.

The SP directed all SDPOs and Officers-in-Charge to take firm action against criminal elements, maintain close coordination with the civil administration and election authorities, and ensure that adequate security measures are in place throughout the polling process.
