Tension and concern spread across the Ranjit Nagar area of Agartala after the body of a young man was recovered from beside the Katakhal canal on Sunday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Shubhajit Pal, son of Biswajit Pal, a resident of Chandinamura in Agartala. Shubhajit worked as a tiles mason.
According to family members, Shubhajit left home at around 5 a.m. on Thursday and did not return. Despite extensive searches by relatives and acquaintances, no trace of him was found.
On Sunday morning, local residents spotted a body lying beside the Katakhal canal in Ranjit Nagar and immediately informed the police. Officers from West Agartala Police Station, along with a team of forensic experts, rushed to the spot and recovered the body. Later, family members identified the deceased as Shubhajit Pal.
Forensic experts collected samples from the scene and launched a preliminary investigation. Meanwhile, the victim’s brother alleged that Shubhajit’s death was not natural and claimed that it could be a case of premeditated murder. The family has demanded a fair and impartial investigation to uncover the truth behind the incident.
Local sources stated that Shubhajit was known in the area for alleged involvement in substance abuse, raising several questions regarding the circumstances of his death. However, police have not ruled out any possibility and are examining all angles of the case.
The body has been sent for post-mortem examination. Police said that the exact cause of death will become clearer once the autopsy report is received. A case of unnatural death has been registered, and West Agartala Police have initiated an investigation into the matter.
