In a late-night operation, Sonamura police recovered a large consignment of illegal drugs from Sonapur area under Sepahijala district.
Acting on a secret tip-off, police raided the house of one Farid Mia and seized 1,669 Yaba tablets, estimated to be worth around Rs 2.5 lakh in the illegal market.
According to Tapas Das, Officer-in-Charge of Sonamura Police Station, the raid was conducted at the residence of Farid Mia’s son, Monir Hossain, who managed to escape upon noticing the police vehicle approaching.
A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Sonamura Police Station.
Police sources said that more arrests are likely to be made in connection with the case.
