Vehicle movement restriction imposed in Agartala for I-Day celebration

The West Tripura District Magistrate has announced traffic restrictions and no-parking zones in parts of the city on August 15 to ensure the smooth conduct of the 79th Independence Day celebrations at Assam Rifles Maidan.

The restrictions will be in place from 8:30 am to 12:00 pm, during which the movement of all private vehicles, commercial vehicles, two-wheelers, e-rickshaws, rickshaws, and wheelbarrows will be prohibited — except for vehicles ferrying school students.

The restricted zone covers the stretch from Gurkhabasti (south) to Buddha Mandir (north), and from Malancha Niwas to Circuit House.

However, vehicles carrying patients to GB Hospital will be allowed entry via Abhaynagar Bazar and Kumaritilla.

No-parking zones have been declared at the following locations:

  • Both sides of the road from the main gate of the old Raj Bhavan to Buddha Temple

  • Both sides of the road from Buddha Temple to the old MLA Hostel on Cantonment Road

  • The road from Buddha Temple to Abhaynagar Post Office

The District Magistrate has also advised air passengers to take the Durga Chaumuhani–Barajala route via Panchavati Kali Mandir to avoid traffic congestion during the event.
