Tripura Leader of Opposition Jitenra Chaudhury today have strongly criticised the Union Budget 2026–27 tabled in Parliament on Saturday, calling it anti-people and disappointing, particularly for the poor and labouring sections of society.

Reacting to the budget, Tripura Leader of Opposition and CPI(M) state committee secretary Jitendra Chaudhury alleged that the budget failed to offer any meaningful relief to common people and workers. He claimed that the financial proposals reflect a worsening economic situation in the country.

Speaking to the media, Chaudhury said that although the Union government presents the budget every year with “many attractive announcements,” the reality over the last 10 to 11 years has been one of public disappointment. “This year’s budget is also a reflection of how the Indian economy is slowly collapsing,” he said.

The CPI(M) leader further alleged that allocations for crucial public interest sectors such as education and health have been reduced due to poor revenue generation. He also pointed out that while the government had announced several schemes in previous years, allocations for key subsidies, including fertilizer subsidies, have not been increased in the current budget.

Chaudhury accused the central government of favouring corporates by waiving taxes while placing a heavier tax burden on ordinary citizens to manage the financial crisis. “From its inception, the present government has provided tax relief to corporates, while common people are being taxed more,” he claimed.

Terming the budget “anti-people,” the Leader of Opposition warned that such policies would further harm the Indian economy in the coming days.
