A long-standing land and property dispute between two brothers ended in tragedy in the Fultali Gram Panchayat area under Kailashahar subdivision of Tripura's Unakoti district, leaving both siblings dead and another family member seriously injured.
According to reports, the incident took place on Friday night in Ward No. 4 of Fultali Gram Panchayat. The deceased have been identified as Mayur Chandra Sinha, a mason by profession, and his younger brother Niloddaj Sinha, a retired Army personnel. The two brothers had reportedly been involved in a property dispute for several years.
Fultali Gram Panchayat Pradhan Mridul Sinha stated that Niloddaj Sinha allegedly arrived at his elder brother's residence on Friday night and became involved in a heated argument. At the time, Mayur Chandra Sinha's wife and son were present in the house.
During the altercation, Niloddaj allegedly attempted to attack with a sharp knife. Mayur's son sustained serious injuries while trying to intervene. Mayur Chandra Sinha also suffered a fatal knife wound to the neck and collapsed on the spot.
Shortly afterward, Niloddaj Sinha was found lying in a pool of blood beside his elder brother's body. Both brothers were declared dead at the scene.
Hearing the commotion, local residents rushed to the spot and informed Kailashahar Police Station. A large police and TSR contingent led by police officer Janua Halam arrived at the scene. Unakoti Superintendent of Police Sudhambika R. also visited the location and spoke with the victims' family members.
A forensic team conducted an investigation at the scene before recovering the bodies and sending them to Unakoti District Hospital for post-mortem examination.
Meanwhile, Mayur Chandra Sinha's seriously injured son has been admitted to Unakoti District Hospital, where police security has been deployed.
Authorities are still investigating the circumstances surrounding Niloddaj Sinha's death. While preliminary reports suggest that he died during the violent confrontation, police have not yet confirmed the exact sequence of events and are working to uncover the full truth behind the incident.
The shocking deaths of the two brothers have created an atmosphere of grief and concern throughout the Kailashahar subdivision, highlighting the devastating consequences that prolonged family and property disputes can sometimes bring.
