Tripura has added another notable achievement to its record by securing the Overall Best-Performing State Award in the Small State Category under the Pradhan Mantri Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME) Scheme.

The award was presented by Union Minister for Food Processing Industries Chirag Paswan during the PMFME Conclave 2026, organised at the India Habitat Centre in New Delhi on August 24 and 25.

The recognition reflects the progress made by Tripura in promoting small-scale food-processing businesses and expanding livelihood opportunities for people at the grassroots level. Through the PMFME scheme, entrepreneurs, Self-Help Groups and micro-enterprises receive support for formalisation, skill development, financial assistance, infrastructure and better market access.

The Tripura Urban Livelihood Mission, in a social media post, described the honour as an important milestone for the state. It said the conclave provided a national platform to highlight initiatives aimed at entrepreneurship development, livelihood generation and inclusive economic growth.

The award also underlines the contribution of local entrepreneurs and SHGs who are engaged in food-processing activities across the state. By encouraging value addition and enterprise development, such initiatives are helping create new avenues for income generation and employment.

Tripura’s performance at the national level is expected to further motivate stakeholders to expand support for micro-enterprises and strengthen the state’s food-processing ecosystem. The achievement also reinforces the importance of grassroots entrepreneurship in building sustainable livelihoods and driving inclusive development.

The national recognition marks a significant boost to Tripura’s ongoing efforts to promote local enterprise, economic empowerment and sustainable livelihood opportunities.
