In a move aimed at enhancing access to higher education, the state government has decided to set up a new Government Degree College at Ambassa in Dhalai district.

According to an official order issued by Animesh Debbarma, Additional Secretary, Education (Higher) Department, the college will be established in the upcoming academic session 2025–26. 

The decision is part of the government’s broader commitment to promoting quality education and fostering socio-economic development in the region.

 “This college aims to provide quality education in various disciplines, contributing to the socio-economic development of the region. The courses to be offered and the intake capacity will be determined by the Department from time to time based on demand and availability of resources,” the order stated.

Admissions to various courses will be conducted as per the rules and regulations of the affiliating university. Seat reservations will be governed by the latest Reservation Acts and Rules of the state government.

The order further mentioned that academic affairs, the examination system, and the curriculum of the college will be administered in accordance with the guidelines of the affiliating university and the Education (Higher) Department.

The required teaching and non-teaching staff, including the Principal, will be appointed by the Department. All official matters including certificates, communications, accounts, assets, and liabilities will be handled under the name “Government Degree College, Ambassa” with immediate effect.
