CPI(M) Politburo member and Leader of Opposition in the Tripura Legislative Assembly, Jiten Chowdhury, has strongly condemned the recent terrorist attack on tourists in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, calling it a disturbing and condemnable incident.

In a statement, he expressed deep concern over the growing threat of terrorism, emphasizing that the attack posed a significant challenge to the nation's overall security.

Chowdhury highlighted that, although there was a period of peace following the declaration of Jammu and Kashmir as a Union Territory, this attack reveals that terrorism has not been completely eradicated.

He pointed out that, after the Pulwama attack, there had been a relatively calm period, but the recent rise in terrorism is a matter of grave concern.

“The way in which the terrorist attack in Pahalgam was carried out is deeply worrying,” said Chowdhury. “Such incidents are not just an attack on Kashmir but on the security and stability of the entire country. It is now clear that terrorism cannot be eliminated merely by eliminating a few terrorists; the roots of terrorism are within the country, and there are external factors involved as well.”

Chowdhury stressed that a comprehensive political solution is essential to tackle the issue of terrorism. He suggested that building a consensus between the people of Kashmir and the peace-loving citizens of the country was crucial for maintaining long-lasting peace.

He called on the central government to take immediate and stringent measures to prevent further attacks.

"The government must ensure the safety of the common people and take responsibility for effectively suppressing militant activities," Chowdhury added.

In closing, the opposition leader expressed his heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and wished the injured a swift recovery. He reiterated the need for urgent action to restore peace and security in the region.
