The Tripura Human Rights Commission (THRC) has directed state Director General of Police (DGP) Anurag to submit a report by September 19 regarding a complaint of alleged assault and wrongful restraint by a police officer at A.D. Nagar police station.
According to the complaint lodged by one Pritam Choudhury, on August 22, 2025, he went to a tiffin shop owned by one Subal Saha at Arundhati Nagar, where he was teased.
After paying Rs 50 for food and asking for a return of Rs 30, he alleged that the shopkeeper not only refused but also assaulted him.
Choudhury further alleged that when he went to A.D. Nagar police station to file an FIR, the Officer-in-Charge, identified as Shri Sushanta Debbarma, refused to register his complaint. Instead, the officer allegedly assaulted him and wrongfully detained him from 8 a.m. to noon, causing chest and head pain.
The complainant has prayed for action against the concerned police officer. Before taking cognizance of the matter, the THRC has sought a factual report from the DGP’s office. A copy of the complaint has been forwarded to the DGP with a request to submit the report on the allegations.
