The Tripura government has declared September 28, 2026, as a paid holiday in areas where polling will be held for the General Election to Village Committees under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC).
The decision was announced through a notification issued by the General Administration (Secretariat Administration) Department on September 17 under Section 135B(1) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951.
According to the notification, government offices, magisterial courts, financial institutions and other establishments located within the jurisdiction of the Village Committees going to polls will remain closed on September 28.
The government has also directed that all eligible employees who are registered voters in the concerned Village Committee constituencies be provided a paid holiday to enable them to exercise their franchise. The provision covers employees working in government offices, businesses, commercial establishments, industrial undertakings and other organisations.
The paid holiday will also be applicable to voters who are ordinarily residents of a polling constituency but are employed or engaged outside that constituency. Casual workers and daily-wage employees working outside their respective constituencies will also be covered by the provision, provided they are registered voters there.
However, the notification clarified that the holiday provision would not apply in cases where an employee's absence could result in danger or substantial loss in connection with the nature of their employment.
The notification was issued by Baijoyanta Das, Joint Secretary to the Government of Tripura.
The move is aimed at facilitating voter participation in the Village Committee elections scheduled to be held across the notified polling areas on September 28.
