Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) has secured the 131st rank among 823 medical colleges across the country, according to the International Institutional Ranking Framework (IIRF) 2026.

The latest IIRF rankings of medical colleges across the country show the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, securing the top position, followed by Madras Medical College, Chennai, in second place and the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) in third place.

The IIRF rankings assess institutions across multiple parameters, including teaching and learning resources, research output, industry integration, placement performance, future orientation and external perception.

Tripura Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha has undertaken a massive transformation of Agartala Government Medical College and GB Pant Hospital to develop them as centres of excellence in the medical field.

Dr. Saha, who is also the Health Minister of the state, has been giving priority to improving healthcare services and developing medical infrastructure.

Due to the sustained development of infrastructure, recruitment of highly qualified faculty members and research collaborations with reputed institutions such as AIIMS Delhi, Mohan Foundation, ICMR and Jhpiego, Agartala Government Medical College has earned its rightful place in the national rankings.

This is a significant step in the development of the health sector in the state, which has huge potential to emerge as a regional health hub.
