Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Tuesday questioned the political direction of the opposition INDIA bloc, accusing Congress and other opposition parties of prioritising political power over public issues while criticising AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge over his alleged remarks concerning Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s father.
Reacting to Kharge’s reported comments, Saha said such language was inappropriate for the head of a national party with a long political history. He expressed disapproval of the remarks and called on people to condemn such statements.
The Chief Minister also alleged that the opposition’s main objective was to bring Rahul Gandhi to the Prime Minister’s chair rather than focus on issues concerning the public. He questioned the ideological coherence of the INDIA bloc and referred to its electoral defeats while criticising its political approach.
Saha also dismissed comparisons between India and neighbouring countries such as Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Nepal in discussions about changes in government. He asserted that a similar political development was not possible in India.
Turning his attention to the political understanding between the Congress and the Communist Party of India (Marxist), Saha questioned how the two parties, which have historically been political rivals, could come together. He said the opposition’s broader political position remained unclear.
The Chief Minister’s comments come amid a fresh exchange of criticism between the BJP and opposition parties, with leaders from both sides continuing to spar over political statements, alliances and their respective approaches to governance.
