A tragic incident claimed the life of a 15-year-old boy, Shubham Das, who drowned while bathing in a river near the Mahamuni Buddhist Temple in Santirbazar on Sunday afternoon.

According to reports, Shubham Das, son of Bimal Das and a resident of Ganjartila, had gone to visit the Mahamuni Buddhist Temple with a friend on a bicycle. After visiting the temple, the two friends entered a nearby river for a bath.

During the bath, Shubham suddenly slipped into deeper water and drowned. His friend raised an alarm, creating panic in the area. Locals immediately informed the Santirbazar Fire Service Department.

Firefighters rushed to the spot and began a search operation. After a prolonged effort, Shubham was recovered from the river in an unconscious state. He was immediately taken to Santirbazar District Hospital, where doctors examined him and declared him dead.

The incident has left the entire Ganjartila and Santirbazar region in deep shock and mourning. Family members are devastated, as what began as a simple outing turned into a heartbreaking tragedy.

Police have initiated an investigation into the incident.
