Five passengers sustained severe injuries in a major road accident involving three vehicles on the Agartala-Udaipur National Highway near Bhuiyarmatha in Bishalgarh sub division on Wednesday.

According to eyewitnesses, the accident occurred following a head-on collision involving a battery-operated passenger auto, a Bolero pickup, and an Indica car.

The crash, which took place amid light rainfall, led to all three vehicles veering off course, trapping the passengers inside.

Local residents, alarmed by the sound of the impact, rushed to the scene and began rescuing the injured. The Bishalgarh Fire Department was immediately alerted, and rescue operations were swiftly carried out. The injured were first moved by locals and later by fire personnel to Tripura Medical College.

Preliminary investigations suggest that a Bolero pickup (registration number TR01K1940), while overtaking an Indica CS (TR01AL0727), collided with a passenger auto (TR0KD2139) that was en route from Udaipur to Agartala. The slippery road conditions caused by the drizzle may have contributed to the Bolero losing control, resulting in the chain collision.

The Bishalgarh police reached the scene shortly after the incident and have begun an investigation. The accident briefly disrupted traffic on the Bishalgarh-Agartala National Highway, but with the help of locals, normalcy was restored within a short span.

The identities of the injured passengers were yet to be confirmed at the time of filing this report.
