A major law and order situation unfolded in Bishramganj under Sepahijala District yesterday following an alleged incident of sexual assault on a tribal woman inside a passenger bus.
Authorities suspect a pre-planned conspiracy behind the violent turn of events, prompting the imposition of Section 163 of the BNSS to curb unrest.
According to police sources, the tribal woman was travelling from Agartala to Master Para in Bishramganj when the alleged assault took place.
The woman reportedly managed to contact her relatives over the phone while still in the bus.
Upon arrival at Bishramganj, enraged family members and locals allegedly attacked and vandalised the passenger vehicle, triggering chaos in the area. The entire incident reportedly occurred infront of the Sepahijala District Superintendent Bijoy Debbarma.
Initial attempts by personnel from the Bishramganj Police Station to control the situation reportedly failed. Senior officials, including Inspector General (Law and Order), Sepahijala Superintendent of Police Bijoy Debbarma, and forces from Bishramganj and Vishalgarh Police Stations, along with Tripura State Rifles (TSR), rushed to the scene to bring the situation under control.
The atmosphere in Bishramganj remains tense, with large contingents of security forces deployed to prevent further escalation. The alleged victim is currently undergoing treatment at the Bishramganj Primary Health Center.
Authorities are investigating the incident and have not ruled out the possibility of a deeper conspiracy aimed at destabilizing peace in the region.
