Students and parents staged a protest and road blockade at Samrendra Ganj Upper Primary School under Poangbari RD Block in South Tripura’s Sabroom subdivision on Monday morning, demanding immediate action on four key issues, including the appointment of teachers.
The protest began around 7 am, with the agitating students locking the main gate of the school before blocking the road in front of the institution. The protesters demanded that the authorities address their concerns without further delay.
The four major demands included the immediate appointment of four teachers in the primary section, recruitment of a local teacher, provision of an LPG gas connection for cooking the school’s midday meals, and appointment of two attendants to look after children studying in the nursery section.
A large number of parents and local residents also joined the students in the protest. According to the protesters, the prolonged shortage of teachers and inadequate infrastructure have severely affected the academic environment at the school.
They alleged that despite repeatedly bringing the issues to the attention of the concerned authorities, no effective steps have been taken so far to resolve the problems.
The protesters warned that if their demands are not fulfilled at the earliest, they would be compelled to launch a larger agitation in the coming days.
The road blockade caused temporary disruption to vehicular movement in the area, leading to inconvenience for commuters.
