Slow Construction of Bridge Causes Severe Hardship for Local Residents; Road Blocked in Protest

The prolonged delay in the construction of a bridge due to the contractor’s negligence has caused severe inconvenience for residents near the Indira Club area on the Sarbang–Amarpur road under Gomati District.

In protest against the difficulties in commuting, villagers from Uttarpara in the Amarpur–Birganj region blocked the road.

The protesters alleged that the construction of a permanent box culvert over Pagolchhara, the only road connecting Uttarpara, is progressing at an extremely slow pace.

As a result, nearly 42 families in the area are facing serious hardships. Local residents said that school-going children, working professionals, and patients are encountering severe difficulties in their daily commute.

The roadblock has brought traffic to a standstill. On receiving news of the incident, senior officials from the administration, accompanied by police, rushed to the site. They spoke with the protesters and assured them that necessary measures would be taken immediately to resolve the issue.

The villagers have demanded that the construction work be completed without further delay, warning that they may resort to larger protests if the situation is not addressed promptly.
