Tripura is set to strengthen its tribal education infrastructure with the operationalisation of six new Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS), following support and approval from the Union Ministry of Tribal Affairs.

Tripura Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma met Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram and thanked the Ministry for its support in ensuring the smooth functioning of the newly established institutions.

Debbarma said the initiative would give a major boost to residential education for tribal students and help expand access to quality education in tribal-dominated areas of the state.

According to the minister, the Ministry’s approval for the operationalisation of the six EMRS is an important step towards strengthening the state’s educational infrastructure and expanding the EMRS network.

“Support from the Ministry of Tribal Affairs for the smooth functioning of these institutions is a significant step towards strengthening educational infrastructure and ensuring greater access to quality education for tribal students in Tripura,” Debbarma said in a social media post.

He also expressed his gratitude to the Union Minister for the continued support extended by the Ministry towards tribal education and development in the state.

During the meeting, Debbarma was accompanied by Tapash Ranjan Bhowmik, Executive Engineer of the Tripura Tribal Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society (TTWREIS), and Madan Gopal Modak, Deputy Executive Officer of the Tripura Housing Board.

The operationalisation of the six new EMRS institutions is expected to further enhance educational opportunities for tribal students and contribute to the development of quality residential schooling facilities across Tripura.
