Tripura University will celebrate its 40th foundation day on October 2 with programmes centred on education, research, environmental awareness and institutional collaboration. The university has planned a series of academic and social initiatives to mark the occasion, including proposed partnerships with educational institutions and industry.
Chief Minister Professor Dr Manik Saha has consented to attend the foundation day programme as the chief guest. University Chancellor Ahmed Javed is scheduled to preside over the event.
Established on October 2, 1987, Tripura University is now a Central University. Under the initiative of Vice-Chancellor Professor Debabrata Das, the administration has planned to make the anniversary more than a ceremonial celebration, with activities intended to connect academic priorities with social responsibility.
The main programme will begin with the hoisting of the national flag. Tree plantation and cleanliness drives have also been planned, along with a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi.
Proposed MoUs with institutions
A key component of the celebrations will be the expected signing of memoranda of understanding (MoUs) with several educational and professional institutions. The proposed agreements are aimed at expanding cooperation in education and research and creating opportunities for academic exchange.
The President of the Institute of Cost Accountants of India and the Vice-Chancellors of Central University of Haryana, Assam University (Central) and Devi Ahilya University, Bhopal, are expected to attend the programme.
Bandhan Group Chairman Chandra Shekhar Ghosh will also be present to mark the beginning of an industry–academia collaboration with Tripura University.
The proposed engagement with the corporate sector is expected to open avenues for closer interaction between academic institutions and industry. The university has identified institutional partnerships as an important area for expanding its academic and research activities.
The participation of representatives from universities and professional organisations is also expected to provide opportunities to discuss possible areas of cooperation and knowledge exchange.
Felicitation and cultural programme
Teachers and other contributors to the university are scheduled to be felicitated during the foundation day celebrations. The programme will acknowledge their contribution to the institution's academic and research activities.
A cultural programme has also been planned, with students, teachers, researchers and non-teaching employees expected to participate. The inclusion of different sections of the university community is intended to reflect the institution's collective character and cultural life.
The celebrations have been organised around themes including academic improvement, research, innovation, environmental responsibility and engagement with society. The administration has sought to combine institutional reflection with activities that emphasise the university's wider responsibilities.
Looking beyond four decades
The anniversary comes as Tripura University seeks to broaden its academic and research initiatives. The foundation day programme is expected to provide an opportunity to review the institution's journey since its establishment and outline priorities for the years ahead.
