In a major step towards peace and stability in Tirap district, a hardcore cadre of the NSCN-K (Nikki Sumi) faction, identified as SS Lt. Nyamphua Hakun, surrendered before the Khonsa Battalion of the Assam Rifles.
According to a press release, the surrendered insurgent was involved in extortion, recruitment, and illegal tax collection across parts of Tirap and adjoining areas.
His surrender was described as the result of sustained outreach efforts combining counter-insurgency operations with people-friendly initiatives aimed at promoting peace and development.
During the formal surrender, Hakun expressed remorse for his past activities and a willingness to rejoin the mainstream. The Assam Rifles commended his decision and assured him of rehabilitation support under the Government’s Surrender and Rehabilitation Policy.
“This surrender marks a crucial step in curbing insurgency in the region and reinforces the Assam Rifle’ commitment to ensuring lasting peace in Arunachal Pradesh and the North East,” the release stated.
