Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Tuesday launched the official website of the Loktak Development Authority (LDA) and released the Waterbird Census Report – Loktak Ramsar 2026 at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat in Imphal.
The newly launched LDA website is expected to serve as an information platform on Loktak Lake and provide details of conservation programmes, projects and activities undertaken by the authority. The initiative is also aimed at promoting transparency and encouraging greater public participation in efforts to protect and conserve the ecologically significant lake.
The Waterbird Census Report – Loktak Ramsar 2026 contains data on the population and diversity of waterbird species recorded in and around Loktak Lake. The findings are expected to provide valuable inputs for biodiversity conservation, habitat protection and future management strategies for the wetland ecosystem.
Loktak Lake, recognised as a Ramsar wetland, is the largest freshwater lake in the Northeast and remains one of Manipur’s most important ecological assets. The lake supports diverse flora and fauna while also sustaining the livelihoods of local communities and fisherfolk.
The Loktak Development Authority has been implementing various measures for the protection, conservation, restoration and sustainable management of Loktak Lake and its associated wetlands.
The launch programme was attended by Minister Kh. Loken Singh, several MLAs, senior government officials, representatives of the Loktak Development Authority and other stakeholders.
The initiatives are expected to strengthen access to information on Loktak Lake while supporting scientific monitoring and conservation efforts aimed at safeguarding the wetland and its rich biodiversity.
