The Tripura government will take necessary action if Anganwadi centres are found closed during working hours to facilitate protests or agitations, Social Welfare and Social Education Minister Tinku Roy said on Tuesday.

Roy made the statement while addressing a review meeting of the Social Welfare and Social Education Department at the Civil Secretariat. The meeting reviewed the progress of various development and welfare programmes and discussed measures to make government services more effective and people-oriented.

The demands and grievances raised by Anganwadi workers were also discussed during the meeting. Roy acknowledged that the workers have several genuine concerns and said their demands have been submitted to the government in writing on multiple occasions. He assured that the government is examining these issues seriously.

However, the minister stressed that essential government services cannot be disrupted during working hours. He said participation in agitations by keeping Anganwadi centres closed would not be tolerated.

“If complaints regarding Anganwadi centres being closed during working hours due to protests are found to be true, necessary action will be taken against the concerned workers,” Roy said.

He underlined the important role of Anganwadi centres in providing essential services to children and mothers, adding that any disruption to these services would be viewed seriously.

Roy further said departmental officials have been directed to take appropriate action whenever such complaints are received and verified.

At the same time, the minister reiterated that the government remains committed to resolving the genuine problems and demands of Anganwadi workers through dialogue and discussion, while ensuring that essential public services continue without interruption.
