A decomposed body of a young man, who had reportedly been missing for nearly 13 days, was recovered hanging from a structure near a brick kiln in the Bamutiya area on Monday morning, triggering tension and shock among local residents.
The deceased was identified as Chandan Sarkar, a resident of North Taltala under Sidai police station. According to his family members, Chandan had been missing for around 13 days, following which a missing diary was lodged at Sidai Police Station.
Locals reportedly noticed a foul smell emanating from the area near Bamutiya market under Lefunga police station and subsequently spotted the decomposed body hanging at a brick kiln. On receiving the information, police reached the spot and recovered the body.
Family members later identified the deceased as Chandan Sarkar.
Although local sources claimed that Chandan may have taken the extreme step following a family dispute, police have not yet confirmed the cause of death. An investigation has been launched to ascertain the circumstances leading to his death.
Meanwhile, the deceased's family has alleged that despite filing a missing diary, necessary steps were not taken by the police to trace him.
The recovery of the body nearly two weeks after his disappearance has cast a pall of grief over the area.
