The Pradesh Congress has announced a Lok Bhavan march on February 16, demanding the reinstatement of the MGNREGA scheme.

The decision was taken at a meeting held today at the Pradesh Congress Bhavan as part of the ongoing “MGNREGA Bachao” programme, said Pradesh Congress President Ashish Kumar Saha.

MLA Sudip Roy Barman, along with other senior leaders and party workers, attended the meeting. The participants held detailed discussions on the current status of the MGNREGA project in the state.

Addressing the media after the meeting, Ashish Kumar Saha said that the MGNREGA Bachao programme was launched across Tripura and the rest of the country on January 10. District-level programmes were held on February 6.

He alleged that an atmosphere of anarchy prevails across the country under BJP rule and that democracy is under continuous attack.

He further claimed that opposition voices are being deliberately silenced in Parliament, with opposition MPs denied the opportunity to raise and debate key public issues.

Saha alleged that the MGNREGA scheme has been virtually scrapped due to the government’s misuse of its majority, pushing thousands of poor families into severe financial distress. He said that the constitutional rights of workers are being systematically curtailed.

Through the Lok Bhavan and Raj Bhavan campaigns, the Congress aims to highlight the real problems faced by the people before the administration. Saha warned that the rural economy would collapse if MGNREGA remains suspended.

He added that all Congress public representatives and leaders would participate in the state-level agitation to protect the right to work under MGNREGA and uphold constitutional values. He warned that if the government fails to take immediate corrective steps, the Congress will intensify its movement across the state.
