In a major breakthrough, the intelligence wing of Tripura Police on Friday arrested a young man with a large consignment of Yaba tablets worth over Rs 25 lakh during a special operation in the Churaibari area of North Tripura district.
Police sources identified the accused as Nazim Uddin, a resident of Ward No. 2 under Tarakpur Gram Panchayat in the Kurti–Kadamtala Assembly constituency.
“Acting on a tip-off, our team launched an operation near the railway station area under Churaibari Police Station and intercepted Nazim Uddin. Upon search, we recovered 10,000 Yaba tablets from his possession,” a police official said.
The seized narcotics, according to estimates, have a black-market value of nearly ₹25 lakh. The recovery has created a stir in the locality, with residents voicing concern over the rising threat of drug trafficking in the region.
Confirming the arrest, the Officer-in-Charge of Churaibari Police Station stated that further investigation is underway to trace the wider network and identify others linked to the racket. The accused will be produced before the court shortly.
Police officials noted that the seizure marks a significant success in efforts to curb the smuggling of Yaba tablets, which are increasingly being funneled into Tripura through cross-border channels.
