In a major anti-drug operation, the Tripura Police of Amtali Police Station arrested a man and seized cannabis estimated to be worth Rs 6 lakh.
According to Amtali Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Paritosh Das, based on a tip-off, he along with Second Officer Mrinal Kanti Pal and other police and TSR personnel were stationed on the Amtali Bypass Road late Tuesday night. They intercepted a blue luxury Maruti car (registration TR 01 BK 0593) speeding from the direction of Bishalgarh in Sepahijala District.
“During a search conducted in the presence of an executive magistrate, multiple bags of dried cannabis were recovered,” said the OC.
The arrested individual has been identified as Sentu Chandra Das, a resident of Malaynagar Rents Colony. An NDPS case has been registered against him at Amtali Police Station, and he was sent to court on Wednesday for remand following legal procedures.
The OC noted that the estimated market value of the seized drugs is around Rs 6 lakh. He added that further interrogation and police remand of Sentu Chandra Das could help uncover the network behind the cannabis trade.
Police officials reiterated their commitment to curbing illegal drug activities in the region.
