A sensation gripped North Banamalipur in Agartala after the decomposed bodies of a man and a woman, reportedly living together in a live-in relationship, were recovered from a house on Tuesday morning.

The deceased were identified as Suman Debbarma, 40, and Priya Debbarma, 39. According to local sources, the two had been residing together at the house for nearly three years.

The incident came to light after a foul smell was noticed coming from the house. Suman’s sister reportedly became suspicious and, upon moving the curtain covering the room, discovered the bodies inside. She subsequently informed the police.

Police personnel reached the spot and recovered the bodies. Preliminary assessment indicates that the deaths may have occurred around two days earlier. However, the exact time and cause of death have not yet been established.

Samples were collected from the scene as part of the investigation, while the bodies were sent for post-mortem examination. Police have initiated an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the deaths.

According to Suman’s sister, the couple had reportedly been involved in frequent arguments and disputes. Family members also claimed that Priya had been married previously and that her relationship with Suman had faced opposition from the family.

The family had allegedly advised the couple either to formalise their relationship after completing the legal formalities concerning Priya’s previous marriage or to live separately. However, police have not established any link between these family-related issues and the deaths.

Suman was reportedly employed with a private organisation but had been unemployed for around two months.

Police have not yet determined whether the deaths were the result of suicide, an accident, or any other cause. The exact circumstances are expected to emerge after the post-mortem examination and further investigation.
