Tripura Police under Madhupur police station have arrested two persons, including a Bangladeshi national, for allegedly attempting to cross the India-Bangladesh border through an unauthorised route.

Police sources said the Bangladeshi national was identified as Ashish Chandra Pal, a resident of Ghoshpara under Sadar Dakshin police station in Cumilla district of Bangladesh. He had allegedly entered India illegally through the Khowai border on July 18.

According to the police, after entering India, Pal planned to return to Bangladesh through an illegal route. In this connection, he allegedly contacted a person from the Mayapur area of Kolkata, who subsequently helped him get in touch with Babul Das, a resident of Konaban Chakbasta in Tripura.

Police reportedly arrested Pal and Das while they were allegedly making arrangements for the illegal crossing.

Following the arrests, investigators have launched a probe to identify other persons who may be involved in facilitating illegal entry and exit across the international border.

The police are questioning both accused persons and gathering information about the suspected network and its modus operandi.

The two arrested persons were produced before the Bishalgarh Sub-Divisional Court on Wednesday afternoon.
