In a significant step towards strengthening healthcare services in Tripura, a high-level delegation led by Health Director Dr. Debasree Debbarma visited the upcoming Agartala Civil Hospital today to review its readiness for commencement of services.
The initiative comes as part of the state government's ongoing efforts, under the leadership of Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha, to enhance healthcare infrastructure and provide quality medical services to citizens. The government is preparing to operationalize the 50-bed Urban Community Health Centre (UCHC), Agartala Civil Hospital, aimed at delivering accessible and improved healthcare facilities to residents of the Agartala Municipal Corporation area.
During the inspection, the Health Director conducted a comprehensive review of the hospital's preparedness and discussed plans for introducing a range of healthcare services. In addition to Out-Patient Department (OPD) facilities, the hospital is expected to offer medical services in departments such as Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Dental Care, and other essential specialties.
The hospital will be managed by the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC). Strategically located in the heart of Agartala city, the facility is expected to benefit urban residents, traders, workers, and people from nearby suburban areas by providing convenient access to healthcare services.
Officials noted that the operationalization of the new hospital will also help reduce the patient load at the state's major referral institution, IGM Hospital, thereby improving overall healthcare delivery in the capital city.
The delegation inspected key sections of the hospital, including the OPD, Indoor Patient Department (IPD), Emergency Unit, Wards, Medical Store, and other service areas. Emphasis was placed on ensuring uninterrupted healthcare services through adequate deployment of healthcare personnel and efficient hospital management.
Among those accompanying the Health Director were Dr. Rajesh Anil Acharya, Head of Office and Deputy Director of Health Services; Dr. Shalu Rai, Principal of Agartala Government Dental College and IGM Hospital; and Dr. Puja Debnath, Associate Professor, along with other senior officials.
The visit reflects the state government's commitment to expanding healthcare access and strengthening public health infrastructure for the benefit of all citizens.
