Heavy overnight rains wreaked havoc in Unakoti district, causing severe disruption to road connectivity and public life. Around 3 am today, a massive landslide struck National Highway 208 near Shantipur School, completely blocking the road. Adding to the crisis, several electric poles were uprooted in the incident.

The disruption left many passengers traveling from Kailashahar to Kumarghat railway station stranded. With vehicles forced to return midway, several commuters were unable to reach their destinations, sparking widespread distress.

In Ward No. 5 of Ujan Jalai, several trees were also uprooted and fell across the highway, further hampering movement. “This damage has occurred due to a severe natural disaster. But no action has been taken by the administration yet,” said local resident Debabrata Deb.

Meanwhile, in the Bolehar area, multiple stretches of NH-208 have collapsed due to incessant rainfall. Locals warned that unless immediate repair work begins, the damage to the road network may worsen, aggravating the crisis.
