Residents living near the Howrah Bridge are in a state of panic after allegations that their homes are being demolished for dam construction.
Around 40 families have reportedly approached the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) seeking urgent intervention.
Today, a four-member delegation, led by Uttam Saha, met with SDM Maniklal Das to present their grievances. The delegation claimed that although they have lived in the area for many years, sudden eviction notices have left them facing extreme uncertainty.
To address the matter formally, the issue was scheduled for discussion in a conference at the District Magistrate’s office. The delegation attended the meeting and engaged in detailed discussions with senior administrative officials. After the meeting, the representatives told the media that they had requested proper rehabilitation and alternative arrangements from the authorities. They also stated that officials assured them of a thorough review and appropriate action.
Meanwhile, residents are anxiously awaiting administrative intervention, urging a permanent solution and safe resettlement.
