A missing man’s body was recovered from the Bilashchhara stream in Kailashahar’s Dhanbilash Gram Panchayat area on Wednesday afternoon, causing widespread shock and concern in the locality.

According to police, the deceased has been identified as Bindu Madhab Sinha, 65, a resident of Ward No. 1 under Dhanbilash Gram Panchayat. His family members stated that he had been mentally unstable for several years.

Bindu Madhab Sinha had reportedly gone missing since Lakshmi Puja. His nephew, Bishwajit Sinha, said the family initially assumed he had gone to visit relatives in nearby Dholugao village. However, on Wednesday, locals spotted a body floating in the Bilashchhara stream. Upon arrival, the family identified the body as that of Bindu Madhab Sinha.

According to Bishwajit, the deceased was unmarried, did not know how to swim, and had a broken right arm. He also mentioned that his uncle often displayed erratic behavior—frequently dismantling and rebuilding his own house. A few years ago, the family had taken him to a mental hospital for treatment, but he reportedly left without informing anyone.

Upon receiving information, Kinkar Pal, a police officer from Kailashahar Police Station, rushed to the spot. The body was recovered and sent to Unakoti District Hospital for post-mortem examination.

Police have not yet determined the cause of death. “The exact reason behind his death will be known after the post-mortem report is received,” said Officer Kinkar Pal.
