In a unique blend of entertainment and sportsmanship, renowned Tollywood celebrities descended on Agartala to participate in a star-studded celebrity cricket match, aiming to inspire Tripura’s youth to embrace the game of cricket.
Leading the team was acclaimed actor Jisshu Sengupta, who expressed his excitement over the initiative. “Yesterday, we witnessed a massive turnout, and although today’s crowd is slightly smaller, the energy is just as electric. This exhibition match is all about enjoyment and encouraging young people to take an active interest in cricket,” he told reporters.
The Bengal Tigers, a team comprising some of the most popular faces from the Bengali film industry — including Bonny Sengupta, Sourav Das, and Jisshu Sengupta himself — played a friendly match against the Tripura Cricket Association (TCA) team at Agartala.
This match followed the Bengal Tigers’ presence at the inauguration of the newly built Kamalpur Cricket Stadium in Dhalai district on Sunday, showcasing their commitment to promoting the sport across Tripura.
TCA Secretary Subrata Dey shared his appreciation for the event, saying, “The Bengal Tigers had shown keen interest in playing a match here in Agartala, and we were happy to organize it. A large crowd has gathered today, showing how such events can truly bring the community together.”
He emphasized the greater purpose behind the event: “This isn’t just about star power or entertainment. Events like these have the potential to ignite passion for cricket among the youth. They promote healthy competition and build dreams.”
The event transformed the city into a festive hub, where fans not only got to see their favourite actors in action but also celebrated the spirit of sports and youth empowerment.
