In a tragic incident at the Govind Ballabh Pant Medical College and Hospital (GB Hospital) in Agartala, a three-year-old girl died on the operating table after her surgery was allegedly delayed for nearly five months.
The deceased, identified as Gungun Saha, daughter of Rajan Saha from the Volcan Club area, had been suffering from a brain tumor. According to family sources, she had previously undergone surgery for the condition in November 2014 and had been under continuous medical supervision since then.
In June this year, doctors reportedly advised another surgery, and Gungun was admitted to GB Hospital. However, her family alleged that despite repeated appeals, the hospital authorities kept postponing the surgery for months, citing various reasons — including the unavailability of equipment and the need for consultations with other specialists.
As her health deteriorated, the doctors finally decided to perform the surgery. Gungun was moved to the trauma center and taken into the operation theater, where she tragically breathed her last on the table.
The grief-stricken family has accused Dr. Reddy and Dr. Debabrata Saha of gross medical negligence, claiming that the prolonged delay directly led to the child’s untimely death.
So far, no official statement has been issued by the hospital administration. Meanwhile, local residents have expressed outrage, demanding a thorough investigation into the incident and strict action against those found responsible.
