Tripura Chief Minister Prof Dr Manik Saha on Friday announced that the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has sanctioned Rs 273.46 crore for the infrastructure expansion of Agartala Government Medical College, a move aimed at significantly boosting medical education and healthcare services in the state.

Expressing gratitude to Narendra Modi and J. P. Nadda, the Chief Minister said the sanctioned amount would help increase 100 MBBS seats and 83 postgraduate seats across 19 critical and specialty disciplines from the academic session 2026–27.

“With this expansion, Tripura will have a total of 550 MBBS seats and 196 postgraduate seats, marking a record increase in the last four years,” Dr. Saha stated.

He further said that the state government remains committed to strengthening healthcare infrastructure and improving opportunities in medical education for aspiring students across Tripura.

The expansion of the medical college is expected to enhance the availability of skilled healthcare professionals in the state while also improving access to quality medical services for citizens.
