The Centre has released Rs 75.60 crore as the first instalment of a Rs 252 crore assistance package for recovery and reconstruction work in Tripura following the devastating floods of August 2024.
According to officials, the state government carried out a Post Disaster Needs Assessment (PDNA) after the floods caused widespread damage to infrastructure and disrupted livelihoods across several districts. Based on the assessment, Tripura submitted a detailed memorandum to the Government of India seeking financial support for rehabilitation and rebuilding efforts.
Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha said the Union government has approved the total relief package under the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF), and the first tranche was released on 26 May 2026.
He noted that the floods severely affected critical infrastructure and the daily lives of residents across the state. Expressing appreciation, he thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for extending support to Tripura during the recovery process.
