The Central government has sanctioned additional funds to ensure the speedy completion of the lighthouse project near the Akhaura border in Agartala.
According to sources close to Tripura Lok Sabha MP Biplab Kumar Deb, the approval came following his request to expedite the long-delayed project.
Construction work, which had slowed considerably, is now expected to resume shortly.
On July 24, Deb met Union Housing, Urban Affairs and Power Minister Manohar Lal Khattar in New Delhi, highlighting the key bottlenecks hampering progress on the project. He urged the ministry to resolve these issues and release the required funds.
The lighthouse project—one of only six in the country and the first in the North East—was launched during Deb’s tenure as Chief Minister. Initially, construction advanced rapidly, but it later stalled due to land-related disputes and other complications.
Designed to provide housing for 1,000 families, the project is considered a significant urban development initiative for Tripura. Officials confirmed that with the Centre’s fresh funding, construction will restart soon and proceed on a fast track.
