A high-level delegation of the Central Government on Monday visited the Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee Agartala Civil Hospital and conducted a detailed assessment of its infrastructure, medical facilities and overall healthcare delivery system.
The visit assumes significance as the Tripura Government continues to focus on strengthening the state’s healthcare infrastructure and enhancing the quality and accessibility of medical services. The hospital was inaugurated by Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha on July 12, 2026.
The newly established facility currently provides services through five major specialist departments—Obstetrics and Gynaecology, General Medicine, Dermatology, Paediatrics and Ophthalmology. Dental care is also available, along with facilities for a range of diagnostic blood tests.
Equipped with air-conditioned facilities and a paperless service system, the hospital has witnessed increasing interest among patients and the general public since its inauguration.
The visiting delegation comprised National Health Authority (NHA) CEO Dr. Sunil Kumar Barnwal, National Health Mission (NHM), Tripura Mission Director Saju Wahid A, NHM Deputy Secretary Dr. Shailesh Kumar Yadav, and Ayushman Bharat CEO and State Mission Director G. Sharath Nayak. IGM Hospital Superintendent Dr. Nirmal Sarkar and other senior health officials were also present during the visit.
As part of the inspection, the delegation visited several key sections of the hospital, including the Outpatient Department (OPD), Inpatient Department (IPD), emergency unit, wards and medical store.
The officials reviewed patient care arrangements, infrastructure, operational systems and the availability of medical services. They also assessed the functioning of different departments and examined the measures being undertaken to ensure efficient and patient-friendly healthcare delivery.
The inspection provided an opportunity to evaluate the hospital’s existing facilities and identify areas requiring further strengthening to improve healthcare services for the people of Tripura.
