Cannabis saplings of Rs 70 lakh destroyed in Tripura village

In a major anti-narcotics operation, a joint security team destroyed a large quantity of cannabis saplings, seeds, and dried cannabis leaves in Tripura's Sepahijala district on Sunday. Police estimated the value of the seized and destroyed narcotics at around Rs 70 lakh.

According to police, the operation was launched based on specific intelligence inputs and was conducted from 8:20 AM to 4:30 PM in the Kamalnagar Ghatighar area under Sonamura Police Station.

During the drive, the joint team detected 22 cannabis nurseries and recovered nearly 7 lakh cannabis saplings. After completing all legal formalities, the saplings were destroyed on the spot.

The team also seized approximately 50 kg of cannabis seeds and 500 kg of dried cannabis leaves, which were likewise destroyed at the site following due legal procedures.

The anti-drug operation was carried out jointly by personnel from Sonamura Police Station, the 81 Battalion of the Border Security Force (BSF), and the 11th Battalion of the Tripura State Rifles (TSR).

Police said such anti-narcotics operations will continue in the border areas to curb the illegal cultivation, production, and trafficking of drugs.
