Body of Housewife Found Stuffed in Sack in Tripura; Police Launch Probe

Panic gripped the Melapathar area under Teliamura police station on Saturday late evening after the body of a woman was found stuffed inside a sack in a house.

A large police force reached the spot soon after receiving information from local residents.

According to police sources, residents of the area noticed a foul smell coming from the house in the evening and alerted the Teliamura police. Upon arrival, officers discovered the decomposed body of a woman inside a sack.

During preliminary investigation, police brought the woman’s father, Ratan Chandra Modak, a resident of Rajnagar, for identification. He identified the deceased as his daughter Sharmistha Modak, aged 36, who lived alone in the house.

Ratan Chandra told police that Sharmistha was first married to Gautam Banik, a resident of Kanchanpur. The couple later got divorced. After living alone for some time, she remarried Gopal Modak and started living with him in the same house.

The discovery of Sharmistha’s body has sparked widespread tension and shock in the locality. Police have begun a thorough investigation to determine the cause and circumstances of her death.
