Tripura Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Tuesday expressed confidence that the BJP will return to power in the state after the 2028 Assembly elections and form the government at the Centre again in 2029 under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Speaking to reporters at the state BJP headquarters in Agartala, Chowdhury said the party was fully prepared to take on the opposition and dismissed the possibility of the CPI(M) returning to power in Tripura.

He said the BJP was prepared to counter any attempt to create “anarchy in the name of development”, whether in Delhi or Agartala.

Referring to the upcoming electoral calendar, the minister said municipal elections, panchayat elections and Village Council elections are scheduled in the coming days. He claimed that the people of Tripura had already rejected the opposition parties.

Chowdhury also launched a sharp attack on the Congress, alleging that while the party maintains a friendly relationship with another political party in Delhi, it is engaged in political confrontation in Tripura. He further alleged that Congress had entered into an understanding with the CPI(M) despite their long history of political rivalry and the sacrifices made by workers of both parties.

According to Chowdhury, a significant section of voters who wanted to defeat the Left Front eventually shifted their support towards the BJP. He claimed that this shift helped pave the way for the BJP governments under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

The minister further claimed that no agitation or mass movement against the BJP governments in the state or at the Centre would succeed.

Reiterating his confidence in the party’s electoral prospects, Chowdhury said the BJP would return to power in Tripura in 2028 and form the government at the Centre again in 2029.
