High tension prevailed in the Rishyamukh area of Tripura's South District on Saturday afternoon after BJP workers and supporters staged a protest ahead of a CPI(M) road meeting, shouting slogans demanding that opposition leader Jitendra Chaudhury “go back.”
According to reports, the CPI(M) had scheduled a public road meeting at Matai Bazar under the Rishyamukh Block. The event was to be attended by Leader of the Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury, former MLA Sudhan Das, and other senior party leaders.
However, before the meeting could begin, workers of the Rishyamukh BJP Mandal sat on the road and began raising slogans such as “Jitendra Chaudhury Go Back.”
Protesters accused the CPI(M) leadership of being involved in the Rose Valley scam and demanded that the money allegedly linked to the scandal be returned to the people and that the truth be made public.
As the situation grew tense, a large contingent of police personnel rushed to the spot to control the crowd and prevent any possible clashes between the rival groups.
Considering the escalating tension, the CPI(M) leadership decided to cancel the scheduled road meeting to avoid any untoward incident.
Administration officials later confirmed that additional police forces have been deployed in and around Matai Bazar to maintain law and order and prevent any further disturbances in the area.
